Computer code
i. BCD code:
- BCD stands for binary coded decimal.
- BCD is a family of representation of numerals, upper case letters and some space special and control characters.
- It is designed by 6-bit of character and 64 characters can be coded.
ii. EBCDIC(Extended binary coded decimal interchange code):
- It is 8-bit character set that was developed by IBM .
- It was the character set used on most computer manufactured by IBM.
- It uses 8-bit for each character or symbol and 256 possible characters can be coded.
iii. ASCII( American standard code for information interchange):
- ASCII pronounced “askee” is the most common alpha numeric code used to represent characters, numbers and symbols.
- ASCII code uses 7 or 8-bit for data representation. With 7-bit only 128 character can be coded and with 8-bit we can code 256 characters.
- Characters include letters (A to Z, a to z), number (0-9),punctuation marks(!.,’ ‘ “), special characters (@ #$) and some control characters.
EX: A=01000001
a= 01100001
iv. UNICODE:
- UNICODE set of universal code it is an industry standard allowing computers to represent and manipulate text expressed in the most and the world writing system.
- UNICODE provides a unique number, for every character.
- Each character of symbol in UNICODE designed by a 32-bit number and the code can defined characters or symbols.
