Introduction of libre office Calc 

Calc is the spreadsheet program of libre office. It is similar to programs such as Microsoft excel. It is alternative to Microsoft excel. 

Spreadsheet:

• Spreadsheet is an application software.
• A worksheet, also called a spreadsheet is an electronic sheet made up of rows and columns.
• A spreadsheet is the place where the user works and performs arithmetical and functional calculations. 
• By default it is named as sheet1,you can rename the sheet. 

Element of the spreadsheet: 

1)Row:

• A row is a horizontal block of cells that spans the entire width of the spreadsheet.
• A row is named as the no. Of 1,2,3...etc. In Calc total no. Of row is 10,48,576. 

First row - ctrl+

Last row-ctrl+ 

2) Column:

• A column is vertical block of cells that spans the entire worksheet.
• It is named as A,B,C...etc. In calc application, total number of column is 1024(AMj) or (XFD-16384 in new versions). 

First column-ctrl +

3) Cell:

• A cell is the intersection of rows & columns.
• A cell in which mouse pointer is available that cell is known as active cells; cell may contain text, numbers and formulas. 

First cell name: A1 

Last cell name: AMJ 10,48,576 

4) Cell pointer or Mouse pointer: Boundary which highlights the cell. 

5) Cell address:<column name> <row name> 

Ex: A1 

 6) Cell range:  

• A range is identified by it's first and last cell address, separated by a colon (:).
• If you want to add cell A1 to A5 then we write formula =sum(A1:A5). 

Functions: A function is a predefined formula that performs calculation using specific values in a particular order. 

Exp: Sum(), power(), sqrt(), max(),count() etc. 

Formula:

• In Calc, any formula is always starts by using equal sign.
• A formula is an expression that operates on values in a range of cell or a cell.
• It performs some operations like Mathematical calculations and logical operations and show on. 

Exp: A1 A2 A3

Formula bar:

• This bar appears at the right side of name box.
• It displays formula as well as value entered into the active cell.
• It also use to edit formula and content in it. 

Name box: The box appear at left of the formula bar and display the address of active cell. 

Active spreadsheet: The spreadsheet on which we are currently working.

Title bar: The name of the application file by default name untitled 1- libre office. 

Menu bar:

• It is collection of commands or menus.
• There are 11 menus in libre office Calc. 

[ File, Edit, View, Insert, format,Style, Sheet,Data, Tools, Window, Help] 

New sheet:

• To add new sheet click on plus button(+) indicated left side of sheet 1.
• By default sheet name: Sheet1.

Extension of Calc:.ODS 

Zoom size minimum: 20%  

Zoom size maximum: 400%  

By default font name: Liberation sans 

Font size:10pt 

Default orientation: portrait 

Default text alignment in cell: Left 

Default number alignment in cell: Right
