Impress: Impress is the presentation (Slide show) program include in libre office.

Impress window:

  • When you will open impress, a window will appears on your screen and you will find impress window in there parts of: Slide pane, workspace and side bar. 
  • You will see several toolbars create and format your text.
  • Slide pane contains thumbnail picture of slide in your presentation ,in the order the slides will be shown.

Slide Pane: 

  • It displays thumbnail pictures in your presentation in the order in which they will be shown unless you change the slide show order.
  • By using slide pane several addition operation can be performed as you can add new slides, Hide any slide,copy and paste, Move one slide to another place etc. 

Workplace:The workspace shown in middle of the with five view: Normal, outline, Notes,Handout and slide sorter.

Side bar: 

  • Sidebar normally open by default on the right sides of the impress window. you can select view > sidebox from the menu box to display it.
  • Sidebar containing eight sections as sidebar Setting,Properties,Animation, slide transition, Master slide ,Style, gallary and navigator, you can open only clicking on the icons.

Presentation: 

  • The presentation is a collection of individual slides that contain information on a topic.
  • For example educational purpose.

Slide:

  • Slide is a content page of Libre office impress which completes a pages to be printed along with notes pages. 
  • It is the place where you can type or insert the content about a presentation, colour it, assign a themes and style etc. to make the presentation attractive.

Title bar: 

  • This bar appears of the top of the documents & displays name of the file as well as minimize,restore, maximize and close buttons are available of the right side of this bar for controlling the window.
  • When the presentation is not yet named, you will see as:Untitled-1 Libreoffice impress

Note:  Alt +space +N- For Minimize window                   Alt +space +X- For Maximize window

           Alt +space +R- For restore                                   Alt + F4- Close window

Menu bar :  

  • A group of commands with 10 menus as File,Edit,View,Insert,Format Insert, format, Slide ,Slide show, Tools, window and help that allows the user to performs tasks.
  • It is located just below the title bar.

Toolbar:

  • The collection of buttons (usually with icons) that provide shortcuts to tasks typically located at the top of the screen. 
  • As you can see that Several toolbar can be used during creation of slide .
  • There are two visible standard toolbar and formatting which facilitate you to  make your presentation according to your requirement.
  • You can show or hide these toolbars by clicking view Menu> Toolbars.

Status bar: 

  • This bar appears of  the bottomof the screen that shows information about the document as page number, word and character count,page style, Language, selection mode etc.
  • You will see Information like current slide number and total pages ,view Layout and zoomslider with zoom percentage. 

View:

  • This menu provides several views in the presentation you can use and view and and demonstrate as well as.
  •  We have Normal view, slide shorter view, Notes ,pages view, Slide show view, slide Master view, Handouts master,Notes master view elc. 

Slide show: 

  • The continuous display of images, text our shapes with a certain transition or animation either sequentially shows or at random.
  • Slide shows created by stand alone by stand alone applications or a slide show function within a photo editor.
  • The internal between images is file to provide background music.

Placeholder:

  • In impress a placeholder is a box with a dotted outline, designed for the placement of content on the slide.
  • The placeholder is most commonly used for text.
  • You will see a prompt within the placeholder such as "Click to add text".

Design template:

  • A design template acts like a designer and decorator for the slides.
  • You use a number of theme templates and colors and controls to do it possible.
  • It is created so that even through different slide types can have different layouts and graphics, the whole presentation goes together a an attractive package.

* Creating a presentation using templates = shift + ctrl + N

Creation of presentation:

  • When you start libre office impress you will find a presentation wizard on your screen you can create empty presentation or designed templates according to your requirement.
  • Go to file menu> New >Templates or shortcut key(shift+ctrl+N)
  • A template dialog box will appear on screen, you can select one according to your choice and click open.

Creating a blank presentation:

  • Go to file menu> New> presentation or press(ctrl+N)
  • A template dialog box will appear on screen you can select templates of you want otherwise cancel template window.

To open an existing presentation:

  • Go to file menu> open or shortcut key (ctrl+O)
  • Select file location and file name then click on open button.

Inserting and editing text on slides:

1. While you create a new impress presentation, the first slide will appear.

2. To add text, click on the slide and start entering your text.

3. Any slide is the collection of objects (text, chart, picture, audio and video etc.)

There are following ways for inserting a slide in a presentation:

  •  You can add new slides by clicking new slide icon from standard toolbars.
  •  Go to slide menu > select new slide.
  •  Press ctrl+ M shortcut key.
  •  Select slide from the slide pane and press enter key.

Slide and slide Layouts:

♦ When you insert a new slide, it will usually have placeholders.

♦ Placeholders can contain different types of content, including text and images.

♦ Some placeholder have text which you can replace with your own text.

♦ Other have thumbnail icons that allow you to insert pictures, charts and

videos.

Slide Layouts:

  • Slide have different layouts for placeholder, depending on the type of information you want to include.
  • Whenever you create a new slide,you will need to choose a slide layout that fits your content.
  • When you open a blank presentation in libre office impress, the default layout called Title slide appears, but there are other standard layouts that you can apply.

To add a text box(F2): Insert menu> Text box.

  • Text can be inserted into both placeholders and text boxes.
  • Inserting text boxes allows you to add text to the slide layout.
  • Unlike placeholders text boxes always stay in the same place, even if you change the theme.

Deleting slides in a presentation:

  • Select the slide you want to delete then go to slide menu> Delete slide.
  • You can delete the selected slide by right click on mouse and then click on delete slide.

Saving a presentation(ctrl+s):

  •  Go to file menu> save or click on save toolbar.
  •  A save as dialog box will appear on your screen. If you are saving the presentation for first time.

Creating and using master slide:

  • Master view is a special feature in libre office impress that allows quickly modify the slides and slide layouts in your presentation.
  • A master slide determines the text formatting style for the title and outline and background design for all slides that use this master slide.

Create Master slide:

  • select view> master slide > A slide design box will appear right slide on the screen.
  • Select a slide from master slides.

Transition and slide timings:

  • Slide transitions are the effects that take place between slides when slides change in a presentation.
  • Transitions can add a professional look to a slide show, something the change over between slides.
  • Transitions can be applied to individual slides or all the slides in a presentation.

Slide Timings: The slide timing is referred to as the time internal for incoming of a slide and moving away from the screen. It can be set manually on an event or automatic. You can also set slide timing for a particular selected slide or all slides used in a presentation.

  • Select the desired slide from the slide navigation pane > Go to slide menu > slide transition.
  • On the tasks pane, choose desired slide transition.
  • You can modify transition (Variant,duration, sound).
  • Click on apply to all you can check by playing the slide transition by clicking on plat button.

Removing Transition: To remove a slide transition:

  • Select the slides from where you want to remove the transitions.
  •  Select none transition in the slide transition pane.

Animation Effects: Slide animation are similar to transitions, but they are applied to individual elements in a single slide such as:

 Title, chart, shape, or individual bullet point.
