Various technologies making up IoT ecosystem

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem refers to a network of interconnected devices, sensors, software, and technologies that work together to collect, exchange, and analyze data.
  • This ecosystem enables devices to communicate with each other and perform tasks autonomously or with minimal human intervention.
  • The main five components based on the IOT ecosystem are as given below.

1. Things or devices (Sensors or Actuators)

Physical devices that interact with the environment. There are two types: sensors, actuators. Where Sensors work to gather minute data from the surrounding environment and actuators work opposite to that of sensors, sensors sense and actuators act.

2. Connectivity(Protocols or Gateways)

Once the data has been collected by the sensors, it requires a communication channel to transport it between sensors and the cloud./devices

IoT protocols are responsible for transferring data and this transmission can only be possible if two devices are safely connected The choice of network depends on factors such as power consumption, speed of data transfer, range, bandwidth and overall efficiency.

Some of the most popular loT wireless protocols and standards include Bluetooth, Wi- Fi, ZigBee, LoRaWAN, DDS, MQTT, cellular, etc gateways offer security by protecting the system from unauthorized access and malicious attacks.

It can also be considered as a security layer as the data flowing through it is protected by the latest encryption practices.

3. Cloud (Data Processing)-

It is responsible for mainly data storage, deep analysis, processing big data analytics, management and other services components.

Clouds make information effectively available for the consumers.

4. Analytics and data management –

loT Analytics is used to make sense of the vast amounts of analog data.Analytics requires storage power and intelligent computation to be able to make sense of any data.

Tasks such as this can be hosted on the cloud, depending on the loT architecture.

5. User Interface(End-user Devices)-

User Interface is the last component of loT ecosystem that is based on end-user devices.

The user interface is the visible component that is easily accessible and controlled by the lot user.

This is where a user can control the system and set their preferences. This is a more user friendly component of loT ecosystem and easier with user's interaction.
