💻 Main Functions of a Computer System
All computer systems perform five basic operations to convert raw input data into meaningful information for users:
1. 🖱️ Inputting
-
The process of entering data and instructions into the computer system.
-
Examples: Keyboard, mouse, scanner, microphone.
2. 💾 Storing
-
Saving data and instructions so they are available for initial or future processing.
-
Storage can be temporary (RAM) or permanent (hard drive, SSD).
3. 🧮 Processing
-
Performing arithmetic or logical operations on data to convert it into meaningful information.
-
This is handled by the CPU (Central Processing Unit).
4. 🖥️ Outputting
-
Producing useful information or results for the user.
-
Examples: Printed reports, visual displays on monitors, audio output.
5. 🎛️ Controlling
-
Directing the manner and sequence in which all the above operations are performed.
-
Managed by the control unit within the CPU.
