Ubuntu Operating system

  • Ubuntu OS is a free, open-source operating system based on Linux. 
  • It is free of cost, available for individual community and professional use. 
  • Ubuntu is suitable for both desktop and server use. 
  • The ubuntu project is sponsored by canonical Ltd.
  • Canonical will not charge licence fees for ubuntu, now or at any stage in the future.
  • Ubuntu includes thousands of pieces of software, starting with the Linux kernel version4.15 and GNOME 3.28,and spreadsheet applications to internet access applications, web server software, email software, programming languages, different tools and several games.

Unix

  • UNIX is a powerful, multiuser, multitasking operating system originally developed in the 1970s. 
  • It was first created at AT&T Bell Labs in 1969 by Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, and others. 
  • It is proprietary software (close source).
  • The source code of Unix is not available for the general public. 
  • Unix primarily uses a command line interface. 
  • Unix is not portable. 
  • Unix is a rigid hardware environment.
  • Hence, can not be installed on every other machine. 
  • Unix is mainly used in server system, mainframes. 
  • Unix installation is comparatively costier than as it requires more specific hardware circuitry. 
  • Different versions of Unix are– AIS, HP, UX, BSD, Iris etc. 


 

Mac OS

  • Mac OS is a powerful, multitasking, graphical operating system developed by Apple Inc. 

  • It was first introduced in 1984 for Apple Macintosh computers.

  • It is a proprietary software (closed source) operating system.

  • It is UNIX-based, which makes it stable, secure, and efficient.

  • Mac OS is less portable, as it can only be installed and used on Apple hardware.

  • Mac OS is mainly used in personal computers, laptops, and professional creative systems such as video editing and design studios.

  • Its installation is costlier as it requires Apple’s specific hardware and licensed software.

  • Different versions of Mac OS include Mac OS X, OS X Lion, macOS Catalina, macOS Monterey, macOS Ventura, and macOS Sonoma.
