Android OS

  • Android OS is a powerful, single user multitasking, mobile operating system developed by Google.
  • It was first released in 2008 and is primarily designed for smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and wearable devices.
  • Android is an open-source operating system, based on the Linux kernel.
  • Android primarily uses a graphical user interface (GUI) with touchscreen support for user interaction.
  • It is a highly portable operating system, capable of running on various types of hardware from different manufacturers.
  • Android mobile OS have been developed Under “desert-inspired” version name with each new version arranged in alphabetical order with new enhancement and improvement.
  • Different versions of Android OS include cupcake, Donut, Froyo, eclair, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, ice cream, sandwich, Jelly bean, Kitkat, lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo, pie, Android 10(Sept,2019), Android 11 (2020), Android 12 (2021), Android 13 (2022), and Android 14 (2023).


 

iOS(iPhone operating system):

  • iOS is a powerful, multitasking, mobile operating system developed by Apple Inc.
  • It was first introduced in 2007 along with the first iPhone.
  • IOS is a proprietary software (closed source) operating system.
  • IOS primarily uses a graphical user interface (GUI) with touchscreen support for user interaction.
  • IOS is less portable, as it can only be installed and used on Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touch.
  • It is mainly used in smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices.
  • Different versions of iOS include iPhone OS 1–3, iOS 4, 5, 6, iOS 7, 8, 9, iOS 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and iOS 17.

Blackberry OS

  • BlackBerry OS is a mobile operating system developed by Research In Motion (RIM), now known as BlackBerry Limited.
  • It was first introduced in 1999 for BlackBerry smartphones.
  • BlackBerry OS is a proprietary software (closed source) operating system.
  • The source code of BlackBerry OS is not available to the general public.
  • BlackBerry OS is not portable, as it can only run on BlackBerry devices.
  • It is mainly used in smartphones and enterprise mobile devices, particularly for secure communication and business applications.
     

Windows OS for mobile 

  • Windows OS for Mobile is a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft.
  • It was first introduced in 2000 as Windows CE and later evolved into Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile.
  • Windows Mobile is a proprietary software (closed source) operating system.
  • It is designed to run on Microsoft-approved hardware and is not portable to other devices easily.
    Windows Mobile was mainly used in smartphones, PDAs, and enterprise devices.
  • Its installation and licensing were costlier compared to open-source mobile operating systems like Android.
  • Different versions of Windows Mobile include Windows CE, Windows Mobile 5.0, Windows Mobile 6.x, Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 8, and Windows 10 Mobile.
