Overview of Internet of Things(IoT)

Internet of things is a platform where regular devices are connected to the internet so they can interact, collaborate and exchange data with each other.

Definitions of IoT

Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of physical objects or people which is called "things" that are embedded with software, electronics, network, and sensors that allows these objects to collect the data and exchange the data between device

OR

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.

OR

Iot means when things or object are more connected to internet rather than humans.

Communication in IoT

IoT is much wider concept of Internetworking between connected Objects. IoT not only involves Machine to Machine communication, IoT have three types of Communication -

  • M2M - Machine to Machine
  • M2H - Machine to Human
  • H2M - Human to Machine

1. M2M - Machine to Machine

It is a concept where two or more than two machines communicate with each other without human interaction using a wired or wireless mechanism. Example - Vending machine, ATM Machines

2. M2H - Machine to Human

This type of communication is most commonly used where machines guide humans in their daily life. Examples: Fire Alarms ,Traffic Light ,Fitness bands , Health monitoring devices

3. H2M - Human to Machine -

In this human gives input to IOT device (Machine) like as speech/text/image etc. IOT device (Machine) like sensors and actuators then understands input, analyses it and responds back to human by means of text or Visual Display. This is very useful as these machines assist humans in every everyday task.
Examples: Facial recognition, Bio-metric Attendance system, Speech or voice recognition etc.
