1)URL( uniform resource locator): 

  • URLs are unique addresses of resources (website) that are used to locate a file on the internet. 
  • To visit any website, we should know its URL.
  • An URL is divided into four parts.
  • Each part is separated by a forward slash (/) symbol.
  • These are:

1) Transfer protocol 

2) Server name/ Domain name

3) Directory path 

4) file name with extension.

Types of URL:

A)Absolute URL: 

An absolute URL contains the complete address(exact location) of a file on the internet.

B)Relative URL: 

The relative URL doesn’t use the full web address and only contains the location following the server.

2)E-mail: 

E-mail address stands for electronic mail, used to address a person on the internet .

It has two parts separated by @ symbol. They are:

1)User name

2) Domain name for ESP

* ESP : E – mail service provider

3) machine addressing: 

Each and every computer on the internet is called a host. A host has a name and number that uniquely identifies it.

The name is called domain name and number is

called IP address.

Domain name system(DNS): 

  • Domain name system is an internet service that translates domain name into IP address because domain names are alphabetic, they are easy to remember.
  • The internet however is based on IP address every time you use a domain name therefore a domain name system must translate the name into the corresponding IP addresses.

Domain name: 

On the internet domain name space is divided into three section:

1)Generic domain

2)Country domain

3)Inverse domain

Generic domain: Generic domain defines generic behavior to their registered host.
